The SmartVista Front-End component directly responsible for communication with ATMs is the ATM Interface. It provides connectivity to the devices using a broad variety of protocols most commonly employed for this purpose and performs analysis and forwarding of all messages received from ATM.

The SmartVista ATM Interface supports Diebold 912 and NDC+ compliant Message Authentication Codes (MAC) that are added to messages to make sure that they have not been tampered with on the way between the ATM and the system. There is a master key for each ATM, and terminal keys change with every ATM restart (session keys) and also, as an option, on receipt of certain types of messages from the ATM (such as supervisor log-off).

Smartvista Front-End supports two formats of ATM generated PIN blocks: 01 (ANSI X9.8) and 03.
