Rather than an alternative to any of the above solutions, this schematic focuses on yet another dimension of SmartVista's flexibility, showing that the Front-End can be configured for on-line access to customer records in the banking system (on the 'host') where the accounts are ultimately maintained, before authorizing any card transaction. Should the banking system be unavailable for some reason, there is a fallback mechanism to automatically switch to stand-in authorisation.

This configuration can be combined with the Multi-Institution, Multi-Processor environment where several processors can have their own hosts, so that SmartVista Front-End should route authorisation requests to the appropriate system where the customer's accounts are held.
