SmartVista SET Extension is a set of on-line and batch interfaces between the SmartVista Processing and the BPC Payment Gateway software that together allow processing card related payments using the Secure Electronic Transaction protocol (SET), both in the issuer and acquirer modes. SET improves upon conventional credit card purchases by encrypting the credit card number so it cannot be viewed by the seller or merchant, and by authenticating all parties using a digital certificate hierarchy managed by the card organisations. BPC's SmartVista SET Extension and Payment Gateway have been certified by major card organisations supporting SET including Visa and MasterCard.

Other security methods used to authenticate cardholders during on-line purchases and supported by SmartVista include Visa's 3-D Secure (Three Domain Model) and Europay's Universal Cardholder Identification Field (UCAF).
